Here’s what our Kindergarten Readiness Task Group is currently working on to help parents, child care providers, and other community-based organizations support school readiness for preschoolers:
Establish and maintain a Big Horn County Childcare Provider network to provide ongoing training for local child care providers. Training will focus on promoting developmental attainment for children ages birth to age 5.
Continue to develop resources and instructional opportunities for parents in Kindergarten readiness activities. Explore ways to continue the Family Forum activities that were implemented over the past two years in Big Horn County.
Develop a “Reading Clinic” for families. This would involve parent coaching in reading with children, along with distribution of children’s books for families.
Develop a Best Beginnings packet of developmental and early literacy resources for new parents. This packet could be mailed to families or distributed through health care providers at initial well-check visits.
